EMPÚRIES – Concerts at the Fòrum Romà – 2019
Empúries is one of the areas of greatest cultural interest in Catalonia with a privileged natural spot. A specially chosen place with a long tradition in concerts and live music, where surroundings, art and music make magical summer nights possible. One of the most privileged scenarios in our history, it is the gateway to Greek and Roman culture in the Iberian Peninsula. An exceptional site where the remains of a Greek city coexist with those of a Roman city.
EMPÚRIES – Concerts at the Fòrum d’Empúries, it is the proper name that consolidates the musical summer offer in the Ruins of Empúries. Since 2014 TEMproductions, in collaboration with the Museum of Archeology of Catalonia -Empúries, has organized a total of 25 concerts that have been enjoyed by more than 20,000 people. This year and after the good response from the public in the past editions, the 2019 program is presented.

The current boom in the music scene of the Catalan Countries could not be understood without Els Catarres. The band is responsible for the resurgence of festive music in our fiestas and has achieved historical milestones that have marked a before and after as a success of the Catalan groups. They have been the first active band that offering a solo concert fills the 4600 Sant Jordi Club locations and the first to exhaust 7,000 tickets, filling seven rooms in Barcelona in just two weeks when it fired its previous tour. They have been awarded a golden record for their record sales and their tours have become international. Els Catarres are a unique, unrepeatable and now iconic group. Suu is one of the most followed and listened Catalan promises. After triumphing on social networks through its YouTube channel and Instagram, where it already has more than 53,700 followers, its highly anticipated first album, “Natural” (Halley Records, 2018) arrives at popular request. The success achieved through its channels is explained by its naturalness, due to its particular voice and its innate nature for composition, virtues that have led it to publish a disc without filters where styles like the pop, reggae, ska, calypso or rumba are mixed with an inimitable strength and personality. Will act at the Roman Forum of Empúries opening the night of August 10. It will be a pleasure to discover it.
Saturday, August 11 :: ANDREA MOTIS & JOAN CHAMORRO + ALESSIO ARENA
ANDREA MOTIS & JOAN CHAMORRO
The young trumpeter and singer Andrea Motis has been surprising the public since 2012. This young artist, who also plays the saxophone and the trumpet, sings with a personality that was not seen in years. His mentor Joan Chamorro, veteran of Catalan jazz, does a great job from the Sant Andreu JazzBand, the youngest big band in Europe. His career as a saxophonist (among other instruments) is very bright and dilated. Tete Montoliu, Slide Hampton, Bebo Valdés, Randy Brecker, Manhattan Transfer, Steve Wonder … The list of musicians he has worked with is impressive. The concert at the Roman Forum in Empúries will be very well accompanied by Ignasi Terraza on piano, Josep Traver on guitars and Esteve Pi on drums.

With ‘Atacama’, Alessio Arena – a Neapolitan singer-songwriter established in Barcelona – runs the unpublished landscapes of a new Mediterranean songwriter, including the experience of a long journey through the Chilean desert and the music that sprout it. Among the cultural axes of Chile, Catalonia and Naples (city-world par excellence), Alessio brings us into an emotional journey between the song and the most visceral sounds of the world. “‘Atacama’ has collaborations by Clara Peya (Catalonia), Manuel García (Chile), Marta Gómez (Colombia), among others. The music of Alessio Arena is between the art song and the most visceral world music. Of stingy voice delicate, the young chansonnier of the historic Rione Sanità unfolds in his work the invisible landscapes of an unpublished Mediterranean songwriter.

After the success of the tour 20 years. Hoy es siempre, Ismael Serrano will perform at the Festival d’Empúries with ‘Hoy es siempre. Todavía’. A concert of voice and guitar in which the singer-songwriter of Vallecas will once again show how timeless his songs are. Poetic, sincere and always committed to the noble causes, the lyrics and melodies of Serrano unite us under a cozy umbrella and make us recognize each other. From classics like Dad, tell me again, Vertigo or I love so much life – from the boom time of the new batch of singers in Madrid from the 90s – to more recent pieces such as Agua y aceite or Busco una canción – most recited , mean rap-, Serrano honors an extensive and unforgettable repertoire that excites even more live.
