EMPÚRIES – Concerts at Fòrum Romà – 2016
Empúries is one of the areas with greatest cultural interest of Catalonia with a beautiful natural setting. A space specially chosen with a long tradition of live music concerts, where the environment, art and music turn into authentic magical summer nights.
One of the most privileged stage of our history, gateway of Greek and Roman culture in the Iberian Peninsula. An exceptional site where the remains of a Greek city coexist with a Roman city remains.
Empúries. Concerts at the Fòrum Romà, is the name that intends to consolidate the summer musical proposal at the ruins of Empúries. In summer 2014, TEMProductions and the Museum of Archaeology of Catalonia – Empúries, has organized a total of 10 concerts (Love Of Lesbian, Blaumar, Coriolà, Adrià Puntí, Calexico, Núria Graham, Ferran Palau, Andrea Motis & Joan Chamorro, Germà Negre y Txarango) and have been enjoyed by more than 8,000 people. This year, and after the good response from the public in previous editions, we present the program from 2016.
August 12th :: CHAMBAO + Enric Verdaguer :: 22.00 h
Chambao release their latest album Nuevo ciclo (Sony Music, 2016) which opens a new stage in Lamari‘s project. Their single “Camino Libre” is a statement: written during their stay in Uruguay, on a trip they made in early 2015 to restart their career after their world tour, which celebrated the 10th anniversary of the band.
In order to start this new stage with strength, for the production of Nuevo Ciclo Lamari has relied on the creativity of Eduardo Cabra, better known as Visitante, 50% of one of the most revolutionary Latin American duets, Calle 13. From this combination of talents, a new Chambao arises, with the same flamenco flavor as ever, but more organic, authentic and with an undeniable latin style in the percussion and vocals.
A change of course that allows the band to grow in a new direction, keeping alive the spirit and spontaneity that turned Chambao into an original project of global scope: music deeply rooted in the Andalusian land and the Mediterranean Sea, but radically modern and cosmopolitan in its interpretation.
August 13th :: MANEL + Maria Arnal i Marcel Bagés :: 22.00 h
A year and a half after closing the festivities of La Mercè in front of 65,000 people, the last concert of their tour Atletes, baixin de l’escenari (Warner Music/ DiscMedi, 2013), Manel release their long-awaited new album, Jo competeixo (Warner, 2016). Unlike the previous three, this fourth album has been their first experience with a producer, the American Jake Aron, who has worked with artists like Grizzly Bear, tUnE-yArDs and Chairlift, among others.
With Aron’s help, Guillem Gisbert, Roger Padilla, Martí Maymó and Arnau Vallvé planned a recording in two phases that took place between November and December last year: first in Dreamland, a studio in an old church near Woodstock; the second in Dr. Wu’s, Aron’s studio located in Brooklyn (New York). The result is eleven songs, mastered by Chris Gehringer at SterlingSound (Rihanna, Drake, Nose, Wu-Tang Clan), that redefine their sound with electronic nuances.
A unique opportunity to enjoy Manel‘s new songs in a unique setting: the Roman forum of Empúries.
MARIA ARNAL I MARCEL BAGÉS
It’s difficult, very difficult, not to surrender to the bewitching mix of emotion, attitude and talent that distill the performances of Maria Arnal i Marcel Bagés, that leaves a trail of unconditional followers wherever they go. In the throat of the vocalist from Badalona, supported by the skilled guitarist from Flix (Tarragona), traditional songs become an revelation.
After surprising everyone with Remescles, acoples i melismes (Autoedición, 2015), included in the top-10 of best singles of 2015 according to Rockdelux, Maria Arnal i Marcel Bagés invite us to their personal Verbena (Fina Estampa, 2016). They’re true to a concept, the transmission of traditional music, which leads them to work with field recordings, music libraries and digital files.
Members of Compartir Dona Gustet, a multidisciplinary group that supports popular and traditional culture of direct transmission, Maria Arnal i Marcel Bagés insist that it’s not so much about recovering songs or poems, but more about rethinking and putting them into context: living creatures that are transformed by sharing them.
